What is Telogen Effluvium and what causes it?
Telogen Effluvium is when your hair cycle is interrupted and results in your hair going into a ‘resting phase’. This can be caused by many aspects of general life which includes childbirth, surgery/illness or even a fever. Some medications can also affect your hair cycle which can cause Telogen Effluvium.
Physical and psychological stress play a huge role in this type of hair loss which sometimes results in a loss of appetite. Eating less can result in your body lacking iron or proteins which are important to hair growth. Be careful when taking extra vitamins and supplements as an excessive amount of Vitamin A can cause Telogen Effluvium.
Is Telogen Effluvium a permanent condition?
Luckily Telogen Effluvium is a temporary condition and only affects your hair while Follicles return to your normal growth cycle, your hair should grow back.
For someone with naturally Grey or White hair will not be affected as bad by Telogen Effluvium. This is because Telogen Effluvium generally affects pigmented hair.
Chronic Telogen Effluvium
Chronic Telogen Effluvium is the worse type of Telogen Effluvium which you can have. Chronic Telogen Effluvium is a more permanent type of hair loss whereas Telogen Effluvium is temporary. You can use scalp make up and or fibres to make your hair appear thicker and disguise your visible scalp. If your hair loss is severe then you may want to consider a Top piece or wig.
